New book on the history of the Jews of Greece presented in Athens

A presentation of the book “On the Traces of the Jews of Greece”  by Anastasio Karababas took place on Monday 27 June 2022, in the garden of the Numismatic Museum in Athens. “The event has a great significance now only for the Jewish community but also for alGreek people, said EJP member Elias Borbolis, – It brings light on the path Jewish people had on the Greek land”.

The publication is a reference book describing the history of the Jews in Greece, from antiquity to the present day in detail

The author is a professor of history, geography, ethics and civics at the Lyceum of the Alliance des Pavillons in Paris, a member of the international network of the Alliance Israélite Universelle (AIU). He also teaches the history of the Jewish people and is responsible for a commemorative trip to Poland.

The book presentation was addressed by the Vice President Professor Manos Alhanatis on behalf of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) who referred to the importance of the painstaking work of Mr. Karababas.

In addition to the author, the President of the Jewish Museum of Greece, Makis Matsas, spoke about the book, as the JMG has contributed with historical material and photographs published in the book, the legal expert and author Thrasybulos Papastratis, who is also the author of the book’s foreword, and George Pilichos, a researcher and author who collaborates with An. Karampampa for the production of a documentary on the Jews of Greece.
