EJP strengthen ties with Finnish government and Jewish community

On December 2013, EJP Co-Chairman Joël Rubinfeld travelled to Helsinki, Finland for a 3-day visit for meetings with Finnish Members of Parliament and State Secretary to the Minister of the Interior.

During the visit, Rubinfeld had meetings with a dozen of Members of the Finnish Parliament in order to promote the introduction of the EUMC Working Definition of Antisemitism as a legal tool to Fighting anti-Semitism.

Rubinfeld also met the leaders of the Jewish Community of Finland and of Helsinki, as well as the Ambassador of State of Israel to Finland, HE Dan Ashbel.

Joël Rubinfeld, Co-Chairman of the European Jewish Parliament:

"The Finnish Jewish Community is small -- consisting of close to 1500 members -- but well organized and very active, having a Jewish school, a beautiful synagogue and regular activities. This community is today facing challenges notably about the financing of the security of Jewish sites in Helsinki. It is very important for us at EJP to support them at a political level so that the Finnish authorities guarantee that its Jewish fellow citizens are protected as they deserve to be."
