EJP and JAFI leaders meeting in Kiev
At 1st of December 2015, EJP Chairman Vadim Rabinovich, together with Ukrainian MEJPs Joseph Akselrud and Vladimir Katzman, met with the Head of the Jewish Agency for Israel Nathan Sharansky and his senior staff.
The meeting took place in Kiev upon the request of Mr. Sharansky, as part of his visit to Kiev.
The meeting included a fruitful exchange of views regarding the activities of the Jewish community in Ukraine and in particular, the possibilities of expanding youth and Aliyah programs.
Another subject that was discussed in length was the resettlement of Jews, who are forced to move from the war areas to other parts of Ukraine, in search for security, peace, accommodation and jobs.
An example for this phenomena is the Jewish community in the village of Anatevka (Gnativka) near Kiev, where Jewish immigrants from Eastern Ukraine arrived in search of jobs and security. A Yeshiva was established and Jewish life are respected and accepted by locals. EJP Chairman Vadim Rabinovich and the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, MEJP Moshe Reuven Asman, invested enormous efforts and resources in the creation of this 'island' of stability for Jewish life.
The meeting was attended by JAFI's Director of Russian speaking Jews, Roman Polonsky and JAFI's Ukraine regional director, Ron Garfeld.
